Black Gangster Movies

Already tired and fed up with the crap they show these days on the tube and silver screen? Then go back to the classics. We really don't what they had back then but movies of the past are so beautifully and thoughtfully made - their plots, story lines, and dialogues were not just great, they were moving; they put on actors and actresses who can truly act and bring forth the emotions needed for their characters; and there was just this “something” in the over-all feel and appeal of these movies. One such classic genre of movies is the black gangster movies. This genre has brought to life other related sub genres like films about the hood, the Bronx, and even dramas involving crimes and moral and ethical issues.

A common theme or ingredient for black gangster movies that make them so appealing is the enormous struggle the protagonist or protagonists of the story have to go through. This is quite an effective platform for black gangster movies to show depth and untapped human emotions that some genres are not able to bring forth.

Another common denominator seen in these black gangster movies are the characters. More often than not, the characters in such movies are very colorful, interesting, intriguing, and very memorable. But of course, such characters and characterizations will not come to life if it weren't for the actors. And quite frankly, black gangster movies hire some of the best performing actors and actresses I have ever seen. It's like they have become one with their characters - which is something hard to do.

So you want to watch a movie in this genre? Then you have come to the right place for I'll share with you some of the best black gangster movies out there.

Hoodlum

This was released in 1997 and all I can say is that this is a classic black gangster film of that era. It stars Laurence Fishburne who gives his audience a very riveting and involving performance. This is also probably one of the best crime themed films you will find out there.

Dead Presidents

Another classic from the 90's era. This movie is about the hardships war veterans face upon returning home. It depicts effectively the lengths people are able to go through to live and survive in a very harsh society. The cast was able to turn in notable performances especially Larenz Tate, Chris Tucker and Keith David. This is a movie that is truly worth your time.
